How the Floatee Anti-Drowning T-Shirt Works

Most child life jackets are bulky, hot, and so uncomfortable that kids refuse to wear them. Floatee solves that problem: it looks and feels like a normal UV t-shirt, so children actually keep it on — and it only reveals its safety system when it's needed.

A t-shirt with a hidden safety system

Built into the collar is a compact inflation system certified to the ISO 12402 standard for personal flotation. In everyday play it stays flat and invisible. The fabric is breathable, sun-protective, and designed for comfort in and out of the water.

What happens in the water

If a child wearing a Floatee falls into water, the system reacts on its own:

  • The inflator activates automatically in under 3 seconds of immersion.
  • An air chamber inflates around the neck and turns the child onto their back.
  • Their airway is lifted clear of the water in under 5 seconds, in a stable face-up position.

That automatic response works even when no one is looking — exactly the scenario that causes most drownings.

Reusable and serviceable

After an activation, Floatee is designed to be re-armed with a replacement cartridge so the shirt can be used again. We also offer a recharging and maintenance service to keep the system in top condition season after season.

A layer, not a replacement

Floatee buys time — the critical seconds an adult needs to reach a child. It is a supplementary safety layer that works alongside attentive supervision, barriers and swim skills. See our drowning-prevention guide for the full picture, or explore the technology in detail.

Floatee is a supplementary safety aid and is not a substitute for adult supervision.

Add an extra layer of protection

Floatee's automatic inflation technology gives your child a critical safety margin around water.
